When you’re a teen or young adult, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by depression or anxiety. If you’re dealing with gender dysphoria on top of all of that, life can feel even more suffocating.
Doodles to help with anxiety and depression
Chibird is filled with of motivational drawings. The artist, named Jacqueline, has spent years making art to help people feel empowered, encouraged and less alone.
I love her drawings. In my work as a teen therapist, I sometimes find myself wishing I could be a small bird or bunny, cheering my clients on throughout the day!
Here are some of my favorite doodles for mental health
Self-doubt getting you down?
Inspiration and motivation often come after you take the first step.
Yeah, little bird! When you feel stuck, the best way to overcome anxiety is to get moving.
How can I practice self-care and self-love?
Self-care can involve actions that are big, small, and everywhere in between.
With some brainstorming, you can find things to do every day!
Perfectionism and anxiety showing up?
You don’t have to ever be perfect.
Remember: you’re a good apple :)
Self-love isn’t a straight line
Each action you take moves you closer.
From time to time, we all find ourselves caught up in self-criticism or doing things that make us feel worse. It’s great when we stop and change direction.
Build self-confidence from within
Don’t let your thoughts boss you around
Especially when there’s evidence of how much you matter <3
Building self-esteem for teenagers
You’re not the only one struggling with painful thoughts
Talking to people you trust (including a therapist or counselor), doing something you enjoy, and giving yourself a break are ways of showing self-love.
Go at your own pace
We all have different journeys.
When we think about “what if…” we start to loose track of “right now.” And there’s often something in right now that’s pretty great, even if we can’t see it at first.
You can cope with anxiety!
Overcoming anxiety
You can’t stop anxious thoughts from coming up, but you can choose how you respond! You don’t have to believe everything you think.
You deserve self-kindness
You’re a person!
You deserve the same kindness you’d give others.
Feeling not good enough?
Everyone grows at a different pace and has different strengths and weaknesses.
You’re great, just as you are.
(Even if you don’t think so! I’ve yet to meet someone who didn’t have something special about them. Sometimes, it’s hiding at first.)
This is an actual picture of me!
(Okay, no, it isn’t. But it is in spirit! If you’d like to know more, here’s some information about me, Kimberly Vered Shashoua, and why I called my therapy practice Vered Counseling).
I hope you enjoyed these pictures as much as I did!
